Australia and New Zealand Cruise–Sailing the Pacific to Hawaii

Aloha from 800 odd miles off the coast of Hawaii! Day 7 of the cruise and it is hard to imagine that on one of our regular cruises we would be disembarking the ship today!  Definitely not ready for that as it feels like we just unpacked.  I’m not sure how appealing 7 day cruises will be in the future either!  I guess you can tell you are truly on vacation once you no longer know which day of the week it is.  Holland America’s elevator floor mats are the only thing that keeps me up to date on the day of the week!

We had a fun German Oktoberfest BBQ on the pool deck yesterday and spent a ton of time swimming with the boys – Henry is slowly getting more confident in the water which is great.

Also some drama at sea today.  A passenger needed some vital medication delivered.  We’re literally in the middle of the pacific between Hawaii and LA.  The ship stopped while a coast guard plane dropped the needed medicine into the ocean and one of the ships life boats went to pick it up.

Last night was formal night so we enjoyed forcing the boys to wear shirts and ties along with dining on lobster.  They weren’t that keen on the lobster – no problem.  I ate theirs,  The boys continue to entertain the crew – they are quite the little celebrities amongst the sea of retired folks!  This morning the waiters spent a ton of time making them little origami Transformers which were pretty cool!

Sunday today and still a full 2 days till Hawaii.  They’ve been running Ukulele classes which Misty has been helping out with and formed an intermediate group!

Lance Ringnald (US Olympic Gymnast) did a show in the main theatre last night which was much more entertaining than I expected – A mix of comedy, gymnastics, juggling and piano playing/singing… On the entertainment side be careful not to confuse a night of “Rat Pack” music with “Brat Pack” – I was all ready for a boisterous evening singing St Elmo’s fire and the like only to find – well it isn’t that.

Time to read a little more then go jump in the pool with the boys again….
