Love Akaroa!
Hello to you Akaroa!
You’re looking fabulous as always and your weather was divine today. We tendered into Akaroa this morning and met up with Peter’s mum, Jennie and Bryan and Peter’s sister Sarah and her children, Luca & Arabella. I was worried that my memories of this beautiful quaint little village nestled in rolling green hills with gorgeous blue water wouldn’t live up to the reality but it is just as charming as it was the first time we visited.
Aside from it being a gorgeous location it was just a perfect day, meeting up with family. The last time we saw Sarah, Luca & Arabella the boys were much younger. Grant was 2 and Henry was only 3 months old. And we have never met Jennie’s new doggy, Daisy that came along. We went to have fish & chips at one of Peter’s favorite places along the waterfront (thanks again Jennie) and then had a wander to the other end of town and walked in and out of shops just visiting and catching up.
On the way back Arabella and Luca were quickly elevated to super cool cousin status by walking along the seafront and finding crabs and other things to show the boys and we eventually took up residence on a bench while the children all worked at skipping rocks. We said our goodbyes (much easier as we’ll see them in 10 days) and tendered back to the ship to happy hour and dinner and settle in to watch the sunset over those verdant hills.
It’s Guy Fawkes Night here and we’re hoping to maybe catch a firework or two on the coast as we sail up all the way to Wellington.
Arabella, Luca, Grant and Henry on the beach…. and one of all of us (except Peter!) on the bench nearby….
