From the cruise newsletter yesterday evening:
“Important Information: Please be aware that the evening of October 15th, the Oosterdam will cross the international date line. The ship’s clocks will be set forward 24 hours at 2am this evening. As a result of this Monday October 14, 2013 does not exist on this cruise”
Well I sure feel cheated of a day vacation there!! At least I didn’t miss a birthday or something like some folks on the table next to us at lunch today!
We went to a lecture this morning with the boys titled “South Pacific Animals, Land & Sky”. Grant was really not happy about going but once he got there he ended up taking 4 pages of notes of things he found interesting. Henry used the time to complete his ENTIRE kindergarten handwriting/letters book. And what did Misty spend her time doing during the lecture? Well, along with spelling out every third word for Grant’s notes, she had to keep poking Peter during the detailed portion of the talk about the Boobies we’d most definitely be seeing. The beautiful markings on specific Boobies and what to look for had Peter on the edge of hysteria. I’m sure our mature co-travelers were really impressed.
Today we crossed the equator and the ship staff celebrated with a King Neptune Celebration. Pirates drag all crew members out who have not passed the equator on a ship previously. They were brought out before King Neptune and the Captain and crew and doused with some sort of food and goo and ultimately all pushed or jumped it the pool. The little write ups on each staff member before they were brought in front of the tribunal were funny and gave us a glimpse of the staff personally. Only other notable thing is that we arrived ridiculously early to get good seats.. waited in the hot sweltering sun only to have people come in as it started and stand directly in front of us. Thanks to some really angry people in our section most of them were chased off in a matter of minutes. Oh also all crew were required to kiss some huge (once) real fish .. we paid Grant to kiss it.. a debt he won’t soon forget to cash.
